Mummy Meagz Rocky Road bars are vegan chocolate bars that are handmade in the UK. I was very kindly sent a box of them to review. Read on to find out what I thought…
Rocky road is a type of chocolate slice which includes marshmallows as well as other ingredients such as dried fruit, biscuit or crispy cereal pieces. All rocky road is different and the popular ingredients often vary by country with Australians liking to add glace cherries and desiccated coconut and Americans often adding walnuts or almonds.
Before trying Mummy Meagz Rocky Road, I hadn’t eaten rocky road in a very long time. Vegan rocky road is almost as rare as unicorn poo and I’d never seen any before. Most shop-bought rocky road isn’t even vegetarian, thanks to the gelatine in marshmallows.
Mummy Meagz Rocky Road is delicious and I would recommend it to anyone, vegan or not.
Each bar is heavy, as it’s so densely packed with chocolatey deliciousness. The marshmallows are nice and chewy and there’s a slight, but not overpowering biscuity crunch.
As well as being suitable for vegans, Mummy Meagz Rocky Road bars are gluten-free and also contain no fruit. They come in four amazing flavours. I’ve tried them all and will be back for more!
Vegan rocky road flavours
This classic rocky road bar is incredibly indulgent, almost, but not quite to the point of being sickly. Those with a sweet tooth are sure to love it. I kept mine in the fridge and it had a nice bite to it, but you could also keep it at room temperature if you like your rocky road a little more gooey.
Sea Salt & Cinder Toffee
The sea salt and cinder toffee rocky road contains pieces of cinder toffee which are a little bit like a Crunchie bar and the slightest sprinkle of salt. I preferred the taste of this one to the original as it’s a little bit more unusual and exciting. Sometimes, I find that salted chocolate can be a little overpowering, but this gets the balance just right.
My favourite flavour! I love chocolate orange and this chocolate orange rocky road is just soooo orangey. The flavour is really strong, so if you’re a fan of orange chocolate, you can’t go wrong with this one. Delicious!
Similar to the orange flavour, the mint flavour was incredibly strong. Personally, toothpaste chocolate isn’t for me, but hey, we’re all different and if you do like minty chocolate you’ll love this one. It’s probably the mintiest chocolate I’ve ever tried.
